The Campus Engagement Intern (CEI) is a public-facing member of NMDP on HBCU Campuses. This position engages with student peers to spread awareness, educate, and inspire committed individuals to join the NMDP Registry through captive-audience presentations, tabling events, digital marketing, and registry recruitment activities. These positions are open to in-person students at Delaware State University in Dover, DE and North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC.

Primary responsibilities include building and sustaining campus relationships and inspiring committed student peers to join the NMDP registry.  Key target audiences for Campus Engagement Interns are:

  • Students, faculty, administrators, and staff.
  • Student Organizations
  • Athletic teams
  • Marching Band
  • Campus public relations / marketing team

With the specific focus to increase the diversity of the NMDP Registry through peer-to-peer engagement & education of ethnically diverse students and student organizations.

This position also delivers ethnic-specific public health information through the planning and coordination of registry awareness, education, and recruitment activities to align with the vision of campus partners and meet organizational goals and targets. Collaboration with internal NMDP partners, such as Member Recruitment, as well as external partners, such as the intern’s campus community network, is essential for maximizing NMDP’s lifesaving impact. All duties are performed in compliance with NMDP policies and procedures.

This role will work collaboratively with a regional Member Recruitment team to accomplish weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual registry recruitment goals.


Other Accountabilities:

  • Charged with building NMDP volunteerism on college/university campus including episodic volunteers and NMDP Ambassadors as measured by number of volunteers and hours of volunteers.
  • Charged with to establishing (if not present), cultivating, and growing NDMP Chapter at intern’s college/university as measured by registered student organization status on campus, number of chapter members and new NMDP registry members added by the NMDP Chapter.


Ability to: 

  • Must be adept at and committed to learning, retaining, and communicating lifesaving information about NMDP to spread awareness, educate, and grow the NMDP Registry within the campus community.
  • Must be a conversationalist who enjoys public speaking and has the ability to build enthusiasm and inspire the campus community about NMDP’s lifesaving community.
  • Must possess above average organizational and time-management skills with the ability to balance the responsibilities of the internship with academic and other responsibilities.
  • Must be adaptable and possess the problem-solving skills to deal with challenges and adversity when things don’t initially go as planned.
  • Must lead weekly on-campus activations including, captive audience presentations, tabling, collaboration with other campus stakeholders, or NMDP recruitment event. These events may require the physical set up and break down of booth/tables/chairs/etc. and securing and managing volunteers to help achieve the weekly recruitment goal.
  • Must have a proven ability to successfully work in a remote environment under minimum in-person supervision – being honest, trustworthy, and dependable to get the job done even when no one is watching.
  • Must become proficient in NMDP’s member registration process.
  • Must be proficient in the use of social media.
  • Must comply with NMDP’s confidentiality policy.
  • Knowledge of computer systems, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.


Education and/or Experience: 

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at an HBCU.
  • Completed at least 30-hours of relevant coursework. Minimum GPA 2.8.


Time Commitment:

  • School Year: 10-20 hours/week
  • Will include some weekend and evening hours.


Pay rate:

  • $17.50/hour

Minimum Experience:

  • Preference given to NMDP Chapter member, NMDP Ambassador and/or NMDP volunteer


Key Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with an innate ability to develop relationships with other students and campus organizations.
  • A passion for public speaking and proficient in using various social media platforms to effectively promote NMDP’s lifesaving mission. 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Internet search applications.   



  • One previous internship preferred.
