POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Director of the Health Services Research (HSR) Program is responsible for leading the HSR program, which aims to improve access to cellular therapy, survival outcomes, and quality of life for all patients.

The HSR Director oversees development and execution of research activities and dissemination for the HSR Program with emphasis on health equity. The HSR Director will develop research priorities and an agenda with the aim to translate research into practice. This role will apply expertise to research initiatives, often working across functional teams and contributing to projects in various stages of development.

The HSR Director will also have responsibility for the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) Health Service Working Committee, interacting with a team of statisticians and nominated co-chairs from the community with appropriate expertise, to perform relevant studies proposed by the community. The CIBMTR is a research collaboration between the NMDP/Be The Match and the Medical College of Wisconsin.  This position can be hybrid or remote (US).  #LI-Hybrid #LI-Remote

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Work Direction:

  • Directs and strategically advances the scientific, technical, and operational efforts and programs of HSR in support of the mission and vision of the National Marrow Donor Program/Be The Match® (NMDP/BTM) and the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR).
  • Collaborates with senior NMDP/BTM and CIBMTR leadership, with steering committees as applicable, to develop objectives and desired outcomes for HSR and initiatives as assigned that drive and support NMDP/BTM’s strategic plan.
  • Leads the development, execution, and completion of short- and long-term HSR projects and contractual deliverables.
  • Serves as a Principal Investigator for HSR studies.
  • Presents proposals, updates and periodic reports as applicable to CIBMTR and NMDP/BTM leadership, board committees, funding agencies, and internal and external stakeholders regarding HSR capabilities, accomplishments, and opportunities.
  • Plans and owns the HSR department budget and cost center; monitors and approves contracts and expenditures.
  • Travels nationally and internationally to represent HSR to foster global collaboration toward NMDP/BTM objectives.
  • Elevates HSR contributions and potential through engagement with internal and external collaborators, customers and other stakeholders in order to impact policy, change practice, improve access and increase event-free survival for all patients.
  • Serves as Scientific Director of the Health Services Working Committee.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Leadership

  • Leads in a positive energy, building a high-performance team and culture that supports the Be The Match mission.
  • Ensures alignment and collaboration with other internal related departments and functions.
  • Strategically identifies needs, recruits resources, and hires staff for the HSR Program.
  • Coaches, mentors, and develops HSR team members.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

  • Advanced knowledge of quantitative research design, implementation, data analysis and synthesis.
  • Knowledge of and ability to conduct statistical analyses using SAS statistical application. Experience in R, SPSS, STATA, CATI, WinQuery/WinCross highly desirable. Ability to determine the appropriateness of new software and learn/maintain current knowledge for specific research needs.

  • Design research studies, including primary data collection and analysis of secondary data.
  • Create and promote a positive team environment. 
  • Publish high quality health services research studies in peer-reviewed journals.

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Health Services Research or similar
  • 5+ years’ experience in a position that required quantitative and qualitative research design and analysis.
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in leading, supervising, and developing teams.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (Additional qualifications that may make a person even more effective in the role, but are not required for consideration)

  • Doctoral degree in Health Services Research or similar
  • Experience across academic, government, and industry settings
  • Proven ability to launch, fund, execute, and complete collaborative research initiatives
